A. Various beliefs on the origin of humans
1. How were humans created based on the beliefs of the following religions or groups?
a. ancient Babylonians – They believed that their God, Marduk, created the earth,
heaven, and mankind after defeating a female monster
named Tiamat. Kingu’s (Tiamat’s husband) blood became
mankind while half of Tiamat’s body became the sky and
half became the Earth.
b. the Mayas of Mesoamerica – They believed that humans were created by Tepeu
and Gucamatz out of maize corn dough.
c. Hinduism – They believe that members of different castes originated from the
body parts of Purusa, the first man.
d. Islam – They believe that all creations are attributed to Allah, the sole and only
God of the Muslims.
e. Judaism – It is also quite similar to the Christian belief wherein God created the
earth, heaven, and mankind.
f. Christians – All species of animals at present as well as those that have become
extinct, are relatives of the 1st species of animals created by
God in a week’s time.
g. Japanese – They believed that humans came from their gods, Izanagi and
Izanami.
h. Chinese – They believe that creation began with a cosmic egg. From this egg, a
giant named Pangu or Phan Ku was born. When he died,
humans began to emerge from the fleas of his hair.
i. Philippines – Filipinos believe that the first man, Malakas, and the first woman,
Maganda, emerged out of a bamboo pole.
j. scientists – scientists believe in evolution, the theory where all living things at
present came from one ancestor.
Creation
1. Do scientists have any apprehension on the literal meaning of Genesis?
Scientists’ beliefs on how the Earth and mankind were created are the exact opposite of religion. They contradict what the bible says because it lacks the use of science, and is scientifically impossible.
2. How does creationism view the origin of man?
In creationism, all species of animals at present as well as those that have become
extinct, are relatives of the 1st species of animals created by God in a week’s time.
3. What are the two groups of creationists? What are their differences?
The two groups are New Earth Creationists and Old Earth Creationists. The new earth creationists believe that the earth, all forms of life, and all things in the universe were created by God almost 10, 000 years ago. While in old earth Creationists, they believe that the earth has been in existence for several billions of years.
